REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Telkomsel recorded a significant growth of Rp66.25 trillion, which is some US$5.02 trillion, in 2014, executive director of the Indonesian mobile operator, Ririek Adriansyah, said here on Wednesday.
This amount rose by 10.4 percent from that in 2013, when it posted a growth of Rp60.3 trillion, some US$4.5 trillion, he added.
"The significant growth can be attributed to the company's consistency towards improving its broadband business and digital services, as well as its voice and SMS services," Adriansyah stated.
Data obtained from the state-owned company, Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), shows that in 2014, the mobile operator earned Rp19.4 trillion (US$1.4 trillion), which is a growth of 11.9 percent as compared to the Rp17.34 trillion (US$1.3 trillion) recorded in 2013.
The ratio of Earning Before Interests, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization in 2014 amounted to Rp37.25 trillion (US$2.8 trillion), 10 percent higher than that in 2013 when it amounted to Rp33.8 trillion (US$2.56 trillion).
Moreover, Telkomsel earned as much as Rp55.69 trillion (US$4.2 trillion) from its prepaid products, which is about 84.1 percent of its total income in 2014.
The company had as many as 137,734 million prepaid customers in 2014.
Its postpaid customers were its other source of income; Telkomsel gained some Rp5.15 trillion (US$3.9 trillion) from 2,851 postpaid costumers.
Furthermore, the digital broadband business of the mobile operator is estimated to have earned 23.6 percent to its total turnover in 2014.
All of Telkomsel's products in 2014 were supported by 85,420 thousand base transceiver stations.
Last year, Telkomsel was allocated 60 percent of the Rp24.6 trillion (US$1.8 trillion) capital expenditure of the Telkom Group, which amounted to Rp14.5 trillion (US$1.1 trillion).
Earlier, the Telkom Group announced that its income amounted to Rp89.696 trillion (US$6.8 trillion), an 8.11 percent increase from its earnings in 2013 that was Rp82.967 (US$6.2 trillion).
