REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KAMPAR -- Investors from the Malaysia Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) lauded a land model for Food and Energy Self-sufficient Village and Household Program being implemented in Kubang Jaya village, Siak Hulu sub-district, Kampar district, Riau province.
"I have never seen such a good program, not even in Malaysia," Rahman, the chairperson of the MTDC team, affirmed here on Wednesday.
The MTDC team comprising several businesspersons visited Kampar to inaugurate the Palm Oil Factory for oil and soap in Sei Pinang village, Tambang sub-district, Kampar, with a capacity to process 120 tons of crude palm oil (CPO) per hour.
The team observed all the village areas and expressed their admiration for the various integrated programs being implemented in the farming, fishery, and husbandry sectors by cultivating a one thousand square meter plot of land for each family.
"This is a very special program that is worthy to be a model for other areas. We will learn and implement it to Malaysia," Rahman emphasized.
Head of Kampar district Jefry Noer noted that the program is being implemented in a bid to achieve national food self-sufficiency.
He explained that currently, Kampar district has the largest palm oil plantation in Riau province that covers an area of almost 700 thousand hectares, with 37 palm oil mills.
However, until now, no downstream processing of palm oil has been carried out for producing cooking oil and other derivative products.
"During this time, the produced palm oil is only sold in the form of CPO, so it does not offer better value to the community living in the producing areas," Jefry remarked, adding that the administrations are cooperating with the Malaysian investors to build the palm oil processing factory.
The MTDC has expressed its commitment to build a palm oil processing factory in Kampar district, with an investment value worth at least US$75.8 million.
"It is planned that the factory will process 120 tons of CPO per hour," Jefry added.
