REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- A passenger train, Argo Bromo Anggrek, on Monday smashed into a truck in Ngasinan Village, Weleri, Kendal District, Central Java, killing the truck's driver Kastan (48).
An eyewitness, Achmad Zaenal, who was also a passenger of the Argo Anggrek train, said the accident occurred at around 12:30 P.M. local time at a railway crossing in Ngasinan Village.
The train that was running on the Jakarta-Surabaya route hit the truck with license number G 1827 CC. The vehicle that was loaded with sand was dragged a kilometer along the tracks from the railway crossing.
According to the witness, the truck was hit hard as the train was moving fast. Several parts of the truck were scattered along the railway track.
"The train stopped with the truck still trapped under it," Zaenal added.
Confirming the accident report, spokesperson for PT Kereta Api Indonesia's Operation Area IV Semarang Suprapto stated that it took place at KM 36, between Kalibodri and Weleri in Kendal District.
The railway crossing reportedly has no gate or barrier.
Suprapto remarked that the truck driver died on the spot and his body was taken to RSI (Islamic Hospital) Weleri, Kendal.
"The evacuation of the mangled truck was still going on. It may take quite a long time as the truck was still stuck between the locomotive and the railway track," he pointed out.
