REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Fijian Ambassador to Indonesia Ratu Seremaia Tuinausori Cavuilati appreciated the Indonesian Public Works and Housing Ministry for its expert assistance to Fiji, particularly in the field of urban and spatial planning.

"A cooperation agreement (MoU) has been in place since 1974. At that time, the agreement was focused on public infrastructure works, particularly urban development and housing," Head of the Public Communication Center Djoko Mursito said in a press statement released on Wednesday.

In 2012, the Fijian ambassador held a meeting with the Indonesian director general of spatial layout to initiate technical cooperation in the field of spatial layout, he noted.

The Fijian ambassador stated her country was facing a shortage of urban/spatial planning experts and expressed hope that similar cooperation would be continued in the years to come.

Hopefully, the cooperation would produce experts in urban development and housing and will contribute to Fiji's progress, she added.

The cooperation between the two nations covers urban planning and development, good governance, green initiatives, human resources development, and settlement.

The other areas of cooperation include the exchange of information, technical knowledge and professional experiences, the exchange and assignment of senior officers/experts, training programs, research, and development.
