REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini has received a honorary doctorate degree in the field of technology, architecture and urban development from Sepeluh November Institute of Technology (ITS) in the city.

She was bestowed with the degree in an open session of the ITS Senate led by Chairman Prof. Ir. Priyo Suprobo, MS, Phd., accompanied by ITS Rector Prof.Dr. Ir. Triyogi Yuwono, DEA. at Graha ITS here on Wednesday (4/3).

Also present at the conferment ceremony were former coordinating minister for economic affairs Chaerul Tanjung, former education minister M. Nuh, Deputy Surabaya Mayor Whisnu Sakti Buana, and a number of politicians and ITS professors.

ITS Deputy Rector I Prof. Dr. Ir. Herman Sasongko, M.Eng said in his address that Rismaharini deserved to receive the degree for her services or works to promote education and culture.

"Rismaharini has consistently developed her ideas and thoughts in applying the concept of green city," he said.

Meanwhile, Rismaharini said in her scientific oration expressed gratitude to the ITS for the degree.

In her dissertation titled Green City in the Dimension of Innovation and Human, she expressed hope that her dream of turning Surabaya into environmentally-friendly city could come into being.

"I am highly thankful for this award and hope that we all can make Surabaya city convenient," she said.
