REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Government of Indonesia should be vigilant regarding the new mode of recruitment of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) members through tour activities, according to the security minister.

"There is a new mode of ISIS members' recruitment through certain tour activities, and thus, the government should be wary of it," Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno stated here on Tuesday.

He noted that the Police and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) have gathered data about the new mode of recruitment.

According to him, they have obtained information about the new mode of recruitment, and they will recheck it.

When questioned about the presence of certain recruitment agents, Tedjo hinted that some Indonesian nationals, who went abroad on tour, had then disappeared.

"We have to stay on guard against it because the Police and BIN have had the data," the security minister noted.

He remarked that the people intending to travel abroad, especially to the Middle East, but have no clear intent and purpose, should be on their radar.

During a National Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) leadership meeting at the Police Academy auditorium in South Jakarta on Tuesday, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called on the TNI and Polri to prioritize prevention of terrorism.

"In dealing with terrorism, prioritize prevention, not to handle it only after it happens," President Jokowi said, adding that preventive efforts need to be backed by on-field data and information collected by the intelligence agency, he noted.

The president remarked that ISIS still poses a threat not only to Indonesia but also to other countries.

Deputy National Police Chief Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti stated that the TNI-Polri leadership meeting is a strategic momentum to implement nine priority agenda outlined in the National Mid-Term Development Plan 2015-2019.

Haiti noted that during the meeting, an agreement on joint basic education will be inked between the TNI and Polri.

The leadership meeting is themed "A Synergy between TNI and Polri as Mental Revolution Drivers."
