Indonesian armed forces participates in cobra gold exercise in Thailand

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) is participating in a multilateral exercise called Cobra Gold 2015, organized by the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF) and the United States Pacific Command.

This information was conveyed to Antara in a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, received here on Saturday.

At the beginning, the exercise was conducted only between the RTARF and the United States Pacific Command. However, it now involves many countries; in 2015, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan also participated in the program, which began on February 9 and will go on till February 20 in Nakhon Nayok province.

Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Lutfie Rauf hopes that Indonesia's participation in the Cobra Gold 2015 exercise will broaden the skills of its military personnel and enrich their experiences.

"I hope the knowledge and experience gained from this program can be developed and applied in the field during military assignments," he remarked.

Previously, the TNI had participated in Cobra Gold exercises several times, especially in those related to humanitarian aid, medical evacuation, and engineering.

The Cobra Gold program is also a means of strengthening friendship and mutual understanding with other countries, in addition to imbibing the skills of the soldiers of participating countries.
