REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will launch a Disaster Recovery Toolkit in Indonesia next Tuesday, according a UNDP press release issued on Friday.

It stated that the Disaster Recovery Toolkit has been developed by the Tsunami Global Lessons Learned Project Steering Committee (TGLLP-SC) in tandem with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC).

The device is intended to provide guidance on the development, implementation and management of post-complex disaster recovery programs.

The international community began prioritizing the learning and sharing of experiences after the catastrophic earthquake and Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004, and to deal with other disasters that have occurred in the Asia Pacific region between 1993 and 2013.

Previously, the Global Learning Project on Tsunami was started in 2008 with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the United Nations and other affected countries.

UNDP Program Administrator Helen Clark launched the first results of the Disaster Recovery Toolkit project in 2009 together with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and TGLLP-SC Chairman Kuntoro Mangkusubroto.

The results of these projects include a study on global learning on The Tsunami Legacy: Innovations, Breakthroughs and Challenges 2009; and Discovery Channel Anatomy of Recovery-Tsunami 2004, a documentary film that will be aired worldwide.

The efforts have also resulted in the Disaster Recovery Toolkit, which can be utilized by disaster recovery practitioners.

The Disaster Recovery Toolkit will be launched next Tuesday, a month before the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will be held in Sendai City, Japan.
