REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta's health service has claimed that the number of dengue fever cases in the capital city has declined.

"We only recorded 265 cases of dengue fever in January 2015. The number is smaller than that recorded in the same period last year," Kusmedi, the head of the health service, stated here on Wednesday.

He noted that during the same period last year, the number of cases reached 865, while 695 cases were recorded in January 2013.

"Besides the annual declining trend, dengue has claimed no lives this year," he remarked.

He said that although the number of dengue fever cases dropped early this year, the city's health service will strive to proactively reduce it further.

"Although the number of cases is smaller, we will continue conducting epidemiological checks across the Jakarta province," he stated.

He said his office would also conduct verification on the number of the cases reported in January to check the validity of the information.

"Actually, I still have some doubt with regard to the legitimacy of the January data.

Therefore, since yesterday (January 3), I have sent teams to the health service centers and hospitals to conduct checks," he noted.
