REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Coordinator of Independent Team known as Team Nine, Syafii Maarif, stated that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo would not install Budi Gunawan as Police Chief. The statement was issued before Indonesian Islamic Congress in Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University (UNY).
"The President has called me. He said that he would not install BG based on recommendation on team," Maarif said on Wednesday, February 4.
Team Nine was formed by Jokowi to give advice and recommendation of conflict between Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and Police. The team recommended that Jokowi should not inaugurate Budi Gunawan.
His decision was also based on his meeting with Chairman of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarno Putri, yesterday. "They talked on BG case," Maarif said.
