REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Pindad will elevate its production, mainly on bullets, after government injects additional capital around 700 billion IDR. The manufacturing industry specializing in military sees bright prospect on domestic bullet market.
Executive Director of Pindad, Silmy Karim, said Indonesia demanded 600 million bullets per year. However, Pindad only supplies 100-150 million bullets. "Pindad must respond the growing demand on weapon system," he said recently.
The company also plans to upgrade defense weapon system, such as rockets and tanks. President Joko Widodo last week visited Pindad office in Bandung, West Java. He asked Pindad to target commercial market.
About 95 percent of Pindad's products are used by domestic market. Only 20 percent is sold to commercial market. "We still have opportunity," Jokowi said, asking Pindad to enhance its production capacity.
