REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- A ship carrying staple foods from Jakarta arrived in Riau Islands' provincial town of Ranai (Natuna Islands), after a month of food crisis, a resident has said.

Previously the Natuna District government sent the Kawarane vessel to Jakarta in an effort to carry staple foods to Natuna, according to a local resident Zam Jambak here on Tuesday.

"Logistics supply has entered the Ranai town, but not yet reach other islands at the end of the archipelago, such as Pulau Laut as one of the outer islands of Indonesia, he said.

In the meantime, the delivery of groceries to Pulau Laut was still constrained due to adverse weather conditions for shipping with high sea waves.

The archipelago of the Natuna Islands, comprising 272 islands, is located in the South China Sea, off the northwest coast of Borneo. Administratively, the islands, including the nearby Bunguran Islands, constitute a regency within the Riau Islands province of Indonesia and are the northernmost non-disputed island group of the country.
