REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) guaranteed that the results of the investigation of the black box recordings of AirAsia flight QZ8501 will not involve interference or intervention from any party.
"The study of the black box will not see interference from the police, or any other party, because we want clean results," Head of the KNKT Tatang Kurniadi said at a meeting with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Tuesday.
Kurniadi assured that the safety commission would follow procedures and not blame any parties for the results of the investigation.
"We cannot draw direct conclusions; these results cannot be brought to court to be used as evidence," he stated.
Kurniadi affirmed that the KNKT had downloaded the recordings from the black box---from the flight data recorder on January 12 and from the cockpit voice recorder on January 13.
They are being studied by a team of 34 members, chaired by the KNKT and monitored by two witnesses from France and Australia.
The team was formed three days after the plane crashed in Karimata Strait on December 28, 2014.
"We have never conducted such an investigation before. We did not sleep for more than 24 hours while downloading the data because we wanted to make quick progress," he remarked.
He also pointed out that the results of these investigations will be recognized internationally as they would not have been possible without the involvement of personnel, both divers and investigators, deployed from other countries.
Moreover, Kurniadi also stated that the KNKT had tools such as pinger locators for tracking in the field.
"We only have two units. So we took two units from Singapore and one each from the United Kingdom and China on loan.
