Indonesia still discuss visa-free entry with China

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING -- Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya stated that Indonesia still discussed visa-free entry with China. Government of Indonesia plans to provide free visa for five countries, including China.

"The discussion is on progress," Minister Yahya said recently. He recently talked with Ambassador of China to Indonesia, Xie Feng, on the matter.

Indonesia is expecting more Chinese tourists coming to the country. In line with visa-free plan, government promote domestic tourism through online, such as "mobile apps", "digital campaign", "interactive campaign", and viral marketing (facebook, twitter, youtube, blog).

Government also provides two historical tour package to Chinese tourists. They can trace back the journey of Chinese Admiral explorer Cheng Ho from Sumatera to Java Island or remember the visit of Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho En Lai to Asia Africa Conference in Bandung in 1955.

"We will attract more tourists as we have agreed to double up the Chinese tourists up to 2 million in 2015," he said. From January to February 2014, about 883,725 tourists from China visited Indonesia. China is the fourth biggest in term of tourist coming to Indonesia after Singapore (1.32 million), Malaysia (1.12 million) and Australia (996,032).
