Yogyakarta preparing medical personnel to anticipate bird flu spread

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- The Agricultural Service of Yogyakarta is preparing fowl medical service personnel in all districts and municipalities to anticipate the spread of bird flu during the peak of the rainy season.

"Veterinarians and other medical personnel will be prepared in every district and sub-district to monitor the development of the people's fowl," Tri Wahana Adiwijaya, the coordinator of the strategic animal disease reaction unit of the Yogyakarta Agricultural Service, said here on Monday (13/1).

He said that his office would also launch a fowl vaccination program in the face of the peak of the rainy season."The people will also give vaccinations to their fowls on the basis of their own efforts," he added.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Yogyakarta predicts that the peak of the rainy season this year will take place in the period of between the end of January and early February.
