REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- Some 23 suspected terrorists were arrested in Central Sulawesi in 2014, according to police.

Two of the suspects were killed in a firefight in Poso several months ago, Central Sulawesi regional police command spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Utoro Saputro said here on Friday (2/1).

He noted that the suspected terrorists were arrested from several locations, including Palu city, Moutong, and Poso districts.

Some 16 terrorist attacks in the form of bombing, shooting, killing, and an attack on Posco police station were reportedly planned to be carried out in the region in 2014.

The regional police command of Central Sulawesi and the anti-terrorism unit of police, Densus 88, jointly uncovered the terrorism cases in the province.

So far, two police officers have been killed in anti-terrorism operations in the province.

The police are still on the lookout for suspected terrorists who are believed to be hiding in Poso district.

The group reportedly has 20 members and is led by Santoso.

Some time ago, the dangerous civilian group was spotted in the Napu valley, a forest area located on the Poso-Sigi border.

The group that calls itself East Indonesia Mujahidin has allegedly killed a local resident after he learned of its activities.
