REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Regional Representatives Council and South Korean Parliament have agreed to improve cooperation with five countries that constitute MIKTA.

"Previously, any cooperation between MIKTA countries was limited to the industry and trade sectors. We want to extend our cooperation to politics, culture, and social welfare," Chairman of RI Regional Representatives Council Irman Gusman said here on Monday (Dec 22).

MIKTA derives its name from member countries Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia.

Irman met with the Chairman of South Korean Parliament Chung Ui Hwa at the Indonesian House of Representative building complex, Jakarta.

During the meeting, both chairmen discussed the next MIKTA meeting that will be held in Seoul, South Korea, in July 2015.

"I will attend the next MIKTA meeting in South Korea," Irman noted.

He pointed out that the current MIKTA cooperation has been integrated in ministerial and parliament level activities.

The 2015 MIKTA meeting in Seoul will discuss how to improve cooperation between state leaders.

Chung stated that his country has been cooperating with Indonesia for 41 years and that the cooperation has made their friendship stronger.

He emphasized that Indonesia and the Republic of Korea (ROK) will increase their cooperation for developing human resources and for the welfare of the people of both countries.

He pointed out that the ROK also supports the cooperation between the MIKTA countries so as to encourage Asian nations to contribute on global level.
