Kuwait Army Chief arrives in Doha for NATO conf.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DOHA -- Kuwait's Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Mohammad Khaled Al-Khedhr arrived in Doha on Wednesday to participate in an international conference marking the 10th anniversary of NATO's Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI).

Al-Khedhr was received by Kuwait Ambassador to Qatar Met'eb Al-Mutotah, Qatari Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ghanem bin Shaheen Al-Ghanem, and senior officials in Kuwait Embassy.

This international event will bring together NATO Secretary General, the 28 Permanent Representatives to the North Atlantic Council, high level NATO officials and government representatives, academics and senior scholars from the Gulf region.

NATO, also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949.

The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party.

NATO's headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium, one of the 28 member states across North America and Europe, the newest of which, Albania and Croatia, joined in April 2009.
