Minister: Indonesia starts to use 4G technology next year

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara stated that starting 2015, Indonesia would have 4G technology. The technology enables internet connection to work faster.

Government and cellular operator are preparing infrastructure to support faster internet connection. The building of infrastructure includes fibre optic technology, submarine cable, radio access and satellite, which costs 270 trillion IDR.

"We hope we can expand the network by 2019," Rudiantara said on Tuesday, December 9.

The 4G Long Term Evolution (4G-LTE) network using 900 Mhz can be used in mid 2015. "4G-LTE will be available in 900 Mhz, 1,800 Mhz and 2.3 Mhz. We will start with 900 Mhz," he said.

The ministry permits cellular operator to use neutral technology. It enables the operator to provide two network technology in one frequency, such as 3G and 4G. Telkomsel, Indosat and XL are among the operators ready to provide 4G-LTE in Indonesia.
