REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo expects Indonesia movies bringing theme from national issue. A movie, he said, had to be attached to reality in the society.
"I hope Indonesian movies do not exile young generation from national history and current reality," President Jokowi said on his official Facebook page.
Jokowi sees films as part of culture and art history of a nation. He admitted that he expected Indonesia could make a movie that raise people's awareness toward national problems.
"A good movie is enlightening. The scene must become a door for the memory in audience's life," he said.
Jokowi said that he loved Indonesia movies, such as Rano Karno's Gita Cinta dari SMA and its sequel, Puspa Indah Taman Hati. He is also fond of Teguh Karya movies, especially Dibalik Kelambu, Badai Pasti Berlalu, November 1828, Ponirah Terpidana and Ibunda.
"Those movies are his masterpiece. They explain problems in society. November 1828 even portrays history of war between Diponegoro and the Dutch Empire dated 1825-1830," he said.
