REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) imports 500 ships from China and Myanmar to envision President Joko Widodo's maritime-axis vision. The ships will be used to transport logistics and distribute goods.
Vice Chairman of Kadin on Trade, Distribution and Logistics, Natsir Mansyur, said sea transportation could efficiently carry out logistics in the areas within the country. "With well connectivity, our economy will grow faster," Mansyur said on Tuesday, December 2.
Kadin plans to import 500 ships from China and Myanmar within the next five year. The value of the investment reaches 5 billion USD. The ships, he said, each only had the capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 DWT. Such ship can only harbour in small ports.
"We target to import 100 ships per year," he said. The ships will carry out logistics, such as LPG, oil, cement and livestock.
