REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Environment and Forestry Ministry introduced the new policy on the management of hazardous and toxic (B3) waste to more than a thousand participants, according to the Environment Ministry's secretary in Jakarta on Thursday.
The presentation encompassed government regulations pertaining to the management of B3 waste to ensure that industries handle their waste sustainably. The participants hailed from various sectors such as representatives from waste-producing industries, environmental organizations, waste-recycling companies, and authorized waste collectors and shippers.
The presentation was aimed at promoting environmental safety in accordance with the Acceleration and Expansion of Economy Development Master Plan (MPE3I) that would help to boost industrial growth and manage their waste. The government is urging industries to recycle and reuse their waste to conserve resources.
Industries have been highly recommended to follow the "reduce, recycle, reuse, and recover" concept. The companies must be authorized to manage and reuse waste categorized as B3. The waste categorized as B3 are physically hazardous substances that are explosive and flammable in nature and are dangerous to human health and harmful to the environment and marine life.
