70 percent of Indonesian people expect nuclear for peace

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAMUJU -- The National Atomic Energy Agency (Batan) has conducted a survey. The result, 70 percent of Indonesian society agreed that the potential of nuclear should be used for peace and national development in various sectors. Head of Batan, Djarot Sulistio Wisnubroto said that only 30 percent of society did not approve of nuclear development in the country due to its negative impacts.

"The survey was conducted by independent institutions and have no interests, so that Indonesia's nuclear future will be managed for peace, not for war," Wisnubroto said on Thursday.

Batan still carries out synchronization steps for nuclear development and management efforts by government in 34 provinces in Indonesia. Nuclear will be used to build in areas, such as agriculture livestock production and fisheries in order to increase its quality that will give more benefits for communities in the country.

According to him, Batan has prepared human resources for nuclear in future by empowering nuclear researchers at Polytechnic Institute of Nuclear in Yogyakarta. Batan currently has 2,800 researchers.
