REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A total of 22 youths from 11 countries are taking part in the International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) 2014 that has been organized here from October 30 to November 1, 2014.
"The IEYI has been organized to support young people in the science and technology fields," Prof. Dr Iskandar Zulkarnain, the head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), stated here on Thursday (30/10).
According to him, the IEYI this year is attended by young participants from 11 countries, namely Japan, Egypt, Nigeria, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Iran and Indonesia.
The exhibition presents hundreds of inventions by youths from participating countries. The LIPI is playing host to this year's event that takes the theme "Creating a Better Future through Innovation."
"All participants are young inventors who are mostly aged maximum 18 years. They are taking part either individually or in pairs," he noted.
The aim of the event is to motivate the youth to build their creative and innovative ideas through inventions. It is also expected to attract more young people to the fields of science and technology. Another objective of the event is to give them the courage to compete and provide them with a platform for exchanging information and experience in the fields of science and technology.
Iskandar remarked that since its launch the EIYI has presented thousands of inventions by youths, including Indonesian youths. The best inventions are given tokens of appreciation in the form of gold, silver, and bronze medals.
In last year's event in Malaysia, Indonesia had won three gold and two silver medals, the LIPI chairman added.
In the meantime, Chairman of the IEYI Jury and Scientific competition Dr Laksana Tri Handoko said the process of assessment by juries this year would be the same as previous years'.
