REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is planning to open two flight routes from Batam (Riau Islands) to Surabaya (East Java) and Bandung (West Java) on November 14, 2014.

"We have applied for a flight route license to the ministry of transportation. Hopefully, based on our target, we will already be able to start serving the two flight routes," PT Garuda Indonesia Station Manager for Batam Office Timbul Panjaitan said here on Tuesday (28/10).

He said that the two routes will be served with 737-800NG planes with economy and business classes.

"Demand for flights for the two routes is high. Therefore, we hope Garuda customers from Batam should no longer make a stopover in Jakarta before heading to the two destinations of Surabaya and Bandung," Timbul said.

He said that so far Garuda passengers leaving for Surabaya had to make a stopover in Jakarta before continuing their flights to their destinations in Surabaya and Bandung.

"With this service it is expected that the flight would be more effective and reduce flight time so that passengers would also feel convenient," he said.

Before serving the two routes, Garuda has been serving the Batam-Jakarta five times a day and Batam-Medan as well as Batam-Tanung Karang two times a day.

Garuda served passengers for the Batam-Jakarta route with Boeing 737-800NGs while for the Medan and Tanjung Karang destinations, Garuda airlines used Bombardier CRJ100s.
