REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Regional Representative Council (DPD) member Fahrul Razi warned President Joko Widodo and Vice president Jusuf Kalla (JK) not to repeat mistakes committed by previous governments that failed to accommodate people's aspirations and forgot their promises.

"President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi must not make mistakes as committed by previous presidents who easily forgot Aceh and their pledges to the people of Aceh," Fahrul said on Wednesday.

The senator from the province of Aceh was speaking in a dialog held by DPD with a theme "DPD expectation of the government of Jokowi-JK".

Fahrul said President Megawati pledged that there would be no tear dropping in Aceh but she announced Aceh a Military Operation Area to quell rebellious people. He said that he had high hope in Jokowi and JK as both leaders had historical bond with Aceh.

"Jokowi once worked and lived in Aceh and JK was the key actor bringing peace to Aceh. Certainly the two know much about Aceh," he said, adding that he handed over a letter to Jokowi on the occasion of the installation of the president on Oct. 20.

Meanwhile a senator from Papua Mesakh Mirin warned President Jokowi to seriously address the roots of problems in the country's most backward region. He cited poor education and poverty in the country's easternmost province. YMesakh asked Jokowi to give an opportunity for the people of Papua to build up their careers in Jakarta to create equality and togetherness.

"We want equal treatment. Any criminals from Papua must arrested and punished as are those from other regions. Blunder may tantamount to plunging Papua into greater misery," he said.

Aceh and Papua have long been hot spots in the country. In Papua separatist rebels are still hiding in its mountain jungles waiting for an opportunity to create problem for the government.
