REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, Prabowo Subianto, has urged Indonesians to give President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo the opportunity to govern the country for the next five or 10 years.

"We need to think positively. We should give the president the opportunity to work well. That's our culture," Prabowo said after attending the inauguration of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla here on Monday.

Jokowi's success in governing the country will not only rely on the pro-people policies he implements but also on how much he shares with the public regarding the outcomes of developmental measures, according to Prabowo.

"The current progress of our country's development is good but can only be shared among a few people. We want the country, at large, to enjoy it," he noted.

Furthermore, a senior researcher of the Indonesia Public Institute (IPI), Karyono Wibowo pointed out that Prabowo's calls for the people to give Jokowi a chance would be well noted and remembered by all Indonesians.

"People will hope that Jokowi's pro-people policies are supported by Prabowo," he remarked.

Prabowo stood against the former governor of Jakarta in the presidential election on July 9, which ended with Jokowi's victory.
