REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Public has high expectations of the new government, so whoever is nominated into the government should be ready to work hard, according to Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Monday.
"During the parade from the parliament building, I saw a large number of people gathered (to welcome us). This shows that the public's expectations of the new government are very high. I told Jokowi about it as well," he stated at the vice presidential memorandum handover at the vice president's office.
Kalla admitted that he had never seen a turnout as big as his and Jokowi's inauguration as the new president and vice president, respectively, did. This made him realize how important his responsibilities were and that he needed to execute them with due diligence.
"People expect the new government to perform better in all sectors," he noted, adding that a lot had to be done to improve domestic conditions in the midst of the current unfavorable situation in the world.
"The economies of the US and China are slowing down to reduce the prices of a number of commodities. We must face this situation by working hard," he remarked.
In keeping with this, Kalla pointed out that whoever was appointed to the cabinet should be able to work hard and live up to people's expectations.
"Regardless of how difficult a problem is, I am confident we can solve it much more easily if we tackle it together," the vice president said.
