REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- 'Soekarno: Indonesia Merdeka' movie goes to the Academy Awards 2015 or 87th Oscar. Directed by Hanung Bramantyo, the 2-hour long movie tells about the past life of Soekarno, the first Indonesian President since he was a young child who became a charismatic and visionary figure. He brought the independence to Indonesia after a long fight together with the other founding fathers, Mohammad Hatta and Sutan Sjahrir.
Based on the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), this film joins the category of Best Foreign Language Film. 'Soekarno' will compete with other movie from around the world to be in the final nomination in January 15, 2015. There are 83 countries, which participated in this category, including Kosovo, Malta, Mauritania, and Panama, which send its film for the first time. The winner will be announced on Feb 22 in the awarding night in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
'Soekarno' movie starring Ario Bayu, Lukman Sardi and Maudy Koesnaedy. The film was also released a re-edited version of 'Soekarno, Extended Movie' to welcome the Independence Day of Indonesia in August 17, 2014 in cinemas.
This film told about Soekarno's personal dilemma and his struggle as the nation’s founding father and as a human. Cost more than two million USD, Soekarno is one of the most expensive movies in Indonesia. A lot of special effects and people were involved to relive the history through the movie.
