REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President-elect Joko Widodo has expressed his appreciation to every faction in Jakarta's Legislative Council (DPRD) for sharing their political views with regard to his resignation as the capital city's governor.

"We must appreciate the views of every political faction and the aspirations of these political parties," he said after attending the Jakarta DPRD plenary session on Monday.

The nine factions---PDIP, Gerindra, National Mandate Party (PAN), Democratic Party (PD), Hanura, Nasdem, PPP, Golkar and PKS---endorsed his resignation. Jokowi, as the president-elect is also known, sent a letter of resignation to the DPRD on October 2, following the announcement of his victory in the presidential election held on July 9 by the General Election Commission (KPU) on July 22.

The two parties remarked that Jokowi should not have run for presidency before fulfilling his promises to the people of Jakarta. The parties also criticized him for not informing the Jakarta DPRD about his presidential candidacy first. In response to their views, Jokowi pointed out that he had only followed the existing regulations and procedures.

"I will wait for a letter (of dismissal) from the president, which will be (sent) through the home affairs minister," the former mayor of Solo affirmed.

On July 22, the KPU had announced in Jakarta that Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla, the vice- president-elect, had won 70,997,833 votes, or 53.15 percent of the 133,574,277 valid votes, while the competing duo of Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa, secured 62,576,444 votes, or 46.85 percent, in the presidential elections. Jokowi will be inaugurated as the country's seventh president on October 20.
