REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Indonesian Oil and Gas Community (KMI) Iwan Ratman said that Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo did not have to carry out Pertamina Energy Trading Ltd (Petral) disbandment as the company still had an important role in providing oil supplies to state owned oil and gas company, PT Pertamina. The disbandment for this time will trigger new problem for government and people, namely the fuel shortage.

"Petral must not be disbanded because our oil demand is still larger than the supply," Ratman said recently.

According to him, if government has succeeded in making oil supplies larger than the demand, Petral can close its operation by itself. The high purchase price of oil by Petral is due to competition among buyers and sellers, which triggers price differences.

"Oil trading is full of competition in getting price, so that the price is more expensive than regular price. To avoid oil trading game, it needs a long term intergovernmental agreements, but it is quite difficult. Related to oil and gas mafia existence, Petral disbandment is not effective because the new institution to replace Petral also accessible for the mafia. Petral has been audited many times by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and there is no evidence of fraud or violation.
