Indonesia, S. Korea, strengthens ties theough cultural festival

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia and South Korea have jointly organized a cultural festival, Korea Indonesia Festival 2014, from October 3 to 31 in Jakarta and other cities, to strengthen their bilateral relationship. The other cities where the festival events have been organized are Tangerang (Banten), Bekasi and Bandung (West Java), Batam (Riau Islands).

"This is an Indonesian and South Korean cultural festival. This cultural exchange is important to strengthen the relationship and trust between the two countries," South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Cho Tai-young said on Friday.

"This event is a joint effort between the Embassy of South Korea, the Korean Culture Center (KCC), the Korean Tourism Organization (KTO), and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia," the Ambassador added.

Meanwhile, the Director of Art Performance and Music Industry Development of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Juju Masuna, expressed hope that the event would have a positive impact on the Indonesian tourism sector.

"This collaboration between Indonesia and South Korea is expected to attract more Korean tourists to Indonesia," Juju said.

The cultural festival has been officially inaugurated by Cho Tai-young, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Dino Patti Djalal and officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia.

The theme of the festival is "Harmoni Bersama" (Together Harmony). The festival will have culinary and tourism exhibitions, animation, art performances, and a film festival. The film festival will be held in Tangerang (Banten), Bekasi and Bandung (West Java), and Batam (Riau Islands).
