REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former Chairman of Democratic Party, Anas Urbaningrum expressed his readiness to file an appeal against verdict of Jakarta graft court. Anas has been sentenced to eight years in prison and a fine of 300 million IDR for his role in the Hambalang sports complex graft case.

The verdict is shorter from earlier sentence requested by prosecutors who demanded Anas to receive 15 years in prison and a gine of 94 billion IDR and 5.2 million USD. Prosecutors have also requested Anas be stripped of his political rights.

"The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will propose an appeal. Our legal team will do it too," member of Anas lawyer team, Pia akbar Nasution said on Monday.

According to Pia, the recommendation of Anas legal team seems to be same as her client wish. They should look for a higher justice because of pure of legal issues. There are some considerations, such as the indictment that can not be proven at the Court.

In the trial, none of witnesses and evidences proves Anas involved in the allegations. On the contrary, all testimonies and evidences revoked Anas name of the case.

KPK has also named two other suspects of Hambalang case, including Andi Alfian Mallarangeng (former Youth and Sport Minister) and Dedi Kusdinar of the ministry.
