REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING -- Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro made a "command greeting" with deputy to the China Central Military Committee General Fan Changlong, marking a farewell bidding during his visit in China from September 21 to 23, 2014.
"Once again, ... the Indonesian way of salute", Purnomo said, after being posed with Gen. Fan Changlong in conducting the command greeting.
On the occasion, Minister Purnomo was warmly greeted and posed with the background of the two countries' national flags.
Purnomo said, although he will no longer be a Defense Minister after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ends his term of office on October 20, 2014, he will express to his successor that relationship and cooperation between Indonesia and China should always be based on sense of brotherhood that has existed long.
"In addition, relationship and defense cooperation between Indonesia and China should be based on cultural similarities that exist between the two nations," Purnomo stated.
With these two foundations, he said, the relationship and cooperation between the two countries especially in the field of defense will be stronger and more solid.
In the meantime, Gen. Fan Changlong said that in the last five years, relations and military cooperation between the two countries have grown rapidly and widely, not only limited to the field of bilateral defense consultative forum but also covered the officer exchanges, joint exercises and defense industries.
Defense cooperation between the two countries was initiated by the signing of the Defense Cooperation Agreement between Indonesia and China on November 7, 2007, which became the basis for both parties to expand defense cooperation forms ranging from forming a strategic forum of ministerial meeting to the Defense Bilateral Consultation Forum.
