REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MOSCOW -- The Russian news agency Itar-Tass is planning to open an office in Indonesia soon, the agency's Chief Editor, Marat Abulkhatin, said here on Saturday.

According to Marat, opening a representative office is necessary since Indonesia is playing a larger role in the international community.

Marat, who was interviewed during the visit of Indonesian Director General for Public Communication Freddy Tulung to Itar-Tass' office, also said he is interested in the growing economy in Indonesia, its large population and the development of mass media in the country.

"With the vast flow of information in the world, Russia needs to establish a media representative office in important countries, such as Indonesia," noted Marat.

He also expressed his hope that authorities in Indonesia will help accelerate the establishment of Itar-Tass' office in Indonesia.
