Jokowi to allocate larger budget for research

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The elected president, Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said that Indonesian research institutions should provide many benefits to communities. He said that the new government had a plan to allocate large budget to support research.

"The research in agricultural sector, social and maritime should be implemented and perceived by community, businessmen, farmers, fishermen and micro business enterpreneurs," Jokowi said in a public lecture and seminar in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to former Jakarta governor, the result of Indonesian research is still unconsolidated well despite large budget of each ministry. According to Jokowi, large budget for agricultural research, The National Nuclear Energy Agency (Batan), The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and The National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN) did not result anything. It has no purpose and no focus.

He said that the result of social research was not properly utilized by business sector and government institutions, whereas the result was urgently needed.
