Iran, Russia review nuclear cooperation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN -- Spokesman of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi and Director General of Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom, Sergey Kiriyenko, in a meeting in Russia on Friday explored ways to boost nuclear cooperation.

During the meeting which was also attended by Rosatom Deputy Director General Nikolai Spassky and Iran's Ambassador to Moscow Mahdi Sanaei, Kiriyenko hailed high level of ties between Tehran and Moscow.

He said the strategic relations between the two nations will be of benefit to both Iran and Russia.

Meanwhile, the AEOI spokesman cited remarks by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as saying that cooperation between a powerful Russia and an independent Iran will serve the interests of both countries as well as regional and international peace and security.

The two sides also talked about nuclear cooperation for construction of nuclear power plants for Iran.
