Vietnam to host ASEAN health ministers meeting

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, HANOI -- Vietnam will hold the 12th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting (AHMM) and related meetings for the first time from Sept. 15 to 19, a Vietnamese official said here on Thursday.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long made the announcement at an international press conference.

According to Long, AHMM is a high-level medical forum of the Southeast Asia, which is held every two years on the principle of rotation.

Some 200 international delegates are expected to join the upcoming meetings, including health ministers from 10 ASEAN countries and China, the Republic of Korea and Japan, ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Secretary General among others, said Long.

Under the theme"Better health for ASEAN Community after 2015," participants at the 12th AHMM and related meetings will have discussions on key medical issues, listen to reports on implementation activities of specialized working groups in the framework of ASEAN Culture Community Master Plan, as well as increase cooperation with partners including China, the Republic of Korea and Japan, said a press release by Vietnam's Ministry of Health on Thursday.

Discussions at plenary sessions within the framework of ASEAN Plus Three and ASEAN Plus China will focus on improving primary health in prevention and fight against non-communicable diseases, multi-sectoral collaboration in prevention and control of new emerging infectious diseases, said the press release.
