Six airports managed by SOE to handle hajj pilgrims

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Six airports under the management of the state-owned airport services company PT Angkasa Pura I would serve Hajj pilgrims in 2014, Director of Angkasa Pura I Tommy Soetomo said on Monday.

"We have been preparing six airports to handle the arrivals and departures of pilgrims this year," he added.

Soetomo explained that the six airports were Juanda International Airport Surabaya, East Java; Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar, South Sulawesi; Sepinggan International Airport Balikpapan, East Kalimantan; Syamsuddin Noor International Airport Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan; Adi Soemarmo International Airport Solo, Central Java; and Lombok International Airport, West Nusa Tenggara.

In accordance with the schedule set by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Hajj departures this year will take place from September 1 to 28. The aircraft being operated in the six airports managed by Angkasa Pura I are eight units of Boeing 767, Boeing 747 and Airbus 330.

From Juanda Airport Surabaya, 28, 800 pilgrims will depart in 64 groups; 12,285 pilgrims in 27 groups via Sultan Hasanuddin Airport; 4,284 pilgrims in 12 groups via Sepinggan Airport; 4,225 pilgrims in 13 groups via Syamsudin Noor Airport; 26,625 pilgrims in 71 groups via Adi Sumarmo Airport; and 3,575 pilgrims in 11 groups from Lombok Airport.
