REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Five Indonesian badminton players advance to quarter finals of the World Badminton Championshi 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark after defeated its opponents in round 16. Tommy Sugiarto - a single player - advanced to quarter finals after he won the match with scores of 21-10, 21-11 over Hong Kong player, Hu Yun.
"I am satisfied in the third round, because I was able to win in straight games over Hu Yun. The straight games' victory allowed me to save energy for the next level," Sugiarto said as quoted by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Friday.
The son of the world champion Icuk Sugiarto will compete Dutch player, Eric Pang, who successed defeating Tian Houwei.
"I have met Eric twice. He has dangerous attack in this game. I will be wary of him, especially when he defeated superior players," Sugiarto added.
Besides Sugiarto, Indonesia also put men's double pair Angga Pratama and Rian Agung, who won in the third match over Wannawat Ampunsuwan and Patiphat Chalardchaleam from Thailand. Indonesian women's double pair Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari who won over Kamilla Rytter Juhla and Christinna Pedersen from Netherland also advance to quarter finals, followed by Anggia Shitta Awanda and Della Destiara Haris who defeated Damkjaer Kruse and Marie Roepke.
The fifth representatives of Indonesia are Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto. The 29th mixed double world rangking successed to stop Russian players, Anatoliy Yartsev and Evgeniya Kosetskaya.
