REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia and Singapore have agreed to strengthen cooperation in developing human resources in the maritime sector. The agreement was reached at a meeting between representatives of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Indonesian Transport Ministry and the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority held in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Tuesday.

Both sides began cooperation in the field of training in September 2005, Director of Port and Dredging of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation at the Indonesian Transport Ministry Adolf R. Tambunan said in a press statement released on Wednesday. Earlier, in August 2013, the two neighboring nations had signed an agreement extending a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the same field for another two years until 2015.

"I believe that both sides have extended the MoU because they had benefited from it," Adolf noted.

The meeting was also aimed at evaluating and reviewing cooperation in the field of training based on the MoU. The meeting is held every year by taking turns between Indonesia and Singapore. Since the MoU was signed nine years ago, a total of 44 training courses have been organized in Indonesia and Singapore.
