REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta' s vice governor Basuki Tjahaya Purnama revealed that he wanted a hard worker to be his deputy when he is inaugurated later as governor to replace Joko Widodo, who has been elected as president.

"To me the criteria is simple. The important factor is the person should work hard, be honest, and discourage bribes," he noted.

He stated that various issues had to be solved in Jakarta. "Lot of work has to be done. So, the one to be my deputy must be ready to work till late in the night as well as have a conscience, as our obligation is to address the needs of the people," he emphasized.

Regarding visits to poverty-ridden areas that Joko Widodo had done so far, Basuki replied that such visits were not compulsory.

"This will be thought about later. CCTV may be installed instead of visiting in person. So, we can conduct visits once in a while," he said.

Basuki noted that he was still not aware of who will later be the vice governor. "It is up to the parties," he said.

He added that he even did not know the candidates whom the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) and Gerindra will nominate.

PDIP is Joko Widodo's party and Gerindra is Basuki's party. The two parties have the right to nominate a candidate to be submitted for approval by the legislative assembly.
