REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Chatib Basri said that the issuance of new 100,000 rupiah note would be a momentum to strengthen currency in financial transaction in Indonesia. The banknote will be a symbol to strengthen Indonesia's sovereignty and reinforce Rupiah as legal tender as mandated by Indonesia's Law on Currency.

"In many cases, people use foreign currency for most of transactions, including in official transaction. Let's use this momentum to make Rupiah controlling the national currency," Basri said recently.

BI and government issued newly designed banknotes denominated in 100,000 for  2014. The new banknote was launched on August 17, which coincided with the 69th anniversary of Republic of Indonesia.
