Yudhoyono and McCain discuss ISIS threat

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and US Senator, John McCain met in Jakarta to discuss a number of issues related to the existence of  the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as a global threat today. McCain said that Indonesia could play an important role in efforts to prevent the spread of ISIS.

"We talked about ISIS. Indonesia - as the largest Muslim population in the world - hopes to stay in peace. Moderate Islam could be an example for wide society. We also believe in President Yudhoyono leadership. I saw ISIS threat to US and also for other countries," McCain said at a press conference at presidential office in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to former US presidential candidate, several young generation of US, Europe, including Indonesia ever went to Syria and returned to their countries with radical ideology. Therefore, it is a threat to watch out for.

"ISIS becomes the largest terrorist organization today in Syria. They also have strong equipment," McCain added.

McCain believes that all countries have same understanding of ISIS threat and they can contribute to prevent its spread.

Yudhoyono met with McCain and Sheldon Whitehouse accompanied by Foreign minister (Marty Natalegawa), Foreign minister deputy (Dino Pati Djalal) and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs minister (Djoko Suyanto).
