REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Sinar Mas Group through its business company, Asia Pulp & paper (APP) donates 2,000 copies of Quran for Muslims in Jakarta. The donation will be distributed to mosques in North and South Jakarta.

"It is also parts of our efforts in strengthening the balance of economic, social and environment. Hopefully it will give blessing for all of us," APP director, Suhendra Wiriadinata said on Friday.

Jakarta deputy governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that this activity should be appreciated and expected to bring positive result to build nation's character. Since 2008, APP has donated more than 165,000 copies of Quran in Indonesia. Company plans to donate 100,000 copies of Quran in 2014.

APP also produces 300 copies of Quran in Braille version. The Quran used QPP paper with brand of Sinartech produced by PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper, which has high quality, certified halal from Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) and exported to many countries.

There is a gap between the need and the availability of Quran in Indonesia. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia needs Quran very much. Ministry of Religious Affairs produced only 60,000 copies of Quran. People's access to get Quran becomes harder for those who live in remote areas.
