REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- The migrant workers from West Java prefer jobs in Taiwan and South Korea due to promising salaries as compared to the Middle Eastern countries.
Chief for Information and Institution Division of Indonesian Migrant Workers Service Agency for West Java area, Panji, stated here on Thursday that the employment opportunities in South Korea and Taiwan have become more appealing to West Java migrant workers.
Another reason that migrant workers aim for employment in Taiwan and South Korea is due to the security they are offered. The salaries offered to migrant workers in these countries are higher than that in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
Ida, one of the migrant workers from Cianjur, West Java, confirmed that employment in Taiwan and South Korea is in a high demand due to better security and higher salaries.
Ida stated that she had earlier done a full time job on a low salary in the Middle East. She claimed that the lack of security for migrant workers was also a cause of concern.
"Several problems including salary suspension by employers are faced by migrant workers in the Middle East, and the employers also withhold the workers' travel documents," Ida revealed.
