REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has urged President-elect Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to accelerate infrastructure development in the eastern Indonesian region.

The eastern Indonesian region lags behind Java in terms of road, seaport, and airport development, Kadin's Eastern Region Coordinator, Annar Salahuddin Sampetoding, stated here on Thursday.

For the sake of economic equality, infrastructure development should be accelerated in accordance with the MP3EI concept, he pointed out.

"We want MP3EI to be implemented properly," Annar noted.

Annar believes that the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla pair offer new hope for the country's business development.

"Jokowi and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla are both competent businessmen. We are optimistic that they are capable of eradicating obstacles faced by businessmen," he added.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) declared Jokowi as Indonesia's president-elect.

On July 22, 2014, the commission announced in Jakarta that Jokowi and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla, won 70,997,833 votes, or 53.15 percent of the total 133,574,277 valid votes, while their rivals, Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa secured 62,576,444 votes, or 46.85 percent.

Jokowi will be inaugurated as the country's seventh president on October 20, 2014, to mark the beginning of a five-year presidential term that continues until 2019.
