REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State-owned gas distributor Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) said it has acquired a stake in the Shale Gas Fasken block in Eagle Ford in Texas, the United States, hoping to receive transfer of technology in shale gas development.
"The reasons for the acquisition is business . We hope we would have access to knowledge and want transfer of knowledge," PGN's director of investment planning and management M. Wahid Sutopo said here on Thursday.
PGN through its subsidiary PT Saka Energi Indonesia has acquired a 36 percent stake worth US$175 million in the block, which is located in South Texas owned by Swift Energy Company.
"Yes, we need to have experience to operate share gas fields not yet operational in Indonesia," Sutopo said.
He said currently the United States itself shows great interest in development and operation of shale gas fields .
"It deserves study bu us," he said.
He said the acquisition cost of US$175 million to Swift Energy, the operator of the gas block, included US$50 million for development.
By the end of 2013, the Shale Gas Fasken block was known to have a reserve of shale gas equivalent to 87.6 million barrel of oil.
