REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chief of the Indonesian Military General Moeldoko has reiterated that his institution will remain neutral prior to and during the presidential election day on July 9.

"People should not be anxious about the Indonesian Military's neutrality. All soldiers are ready to support the police to secure the election," General Moeldoko emphasized here on Monday.

General Moeldoko remarked that he had called all heads of staff and major chiefs of commands for an evaluation meeting and also instructed the regional military chief to manage and support the presidential election's security.

"The military's command is only one, which is in the hands of the Indonesian Military chief. Even if something happened, the Indonesian Military will remain solid as there is only one command," Moeldoko stressed.

With regard to the village supervisory non-commissioned officer (Babinsa) case, which allegedly swayed public opinion in favor of a particular candidate, Moeldoko reiterated that it should have been closed since there was no Babinsa's member who was not neutral.

"There is an issue that Babinsa is not neutral in Sumedang (West Java); it is nonsense. I do not like the judgment, which accused Babinsa. If I was not firm, these issues will spread even more," he noted.

General Moeldoko also instructed the Babinsa and all military entities to work hard with regard to their territorial duty and pointed out that a sanction will be imposed for every violation.

"Therefore, I call on all senior officers to provide security to the people of Indonesia. The democratic process should run smoothly," he added.
