REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) will hold a presidential debate as part of its campaign program for the election scheduled on July 9.
The first debate, which will be between the two presidential candidates, is scheduled for 90 minutes on Monday, moderated by the director of the Anti-Corruption Study Center of the Yogyakarta-based Gajahmada University, Zaenal Arifin Mochtar, KPU official Arief Budiman said here on Monday.
"Everything is ready and each pair has also expressed their willingness to attend. We will provide 90 minutes for a dialog," he said.
He said a moderator will be used instead of panelists to make the debate more effective as no time will be needed for panelists to raise questions.
The debate is scheduled to be held at Balai Sarbini at 8 p. m., with the theme of bureaucratic reforms, law enforcement and government effectiveness.
Arief said KPU will organize debates five times with the first between presidential candidates, the second between the vice presidential candidates, the third between the presidential candidates again, the fourth between the vice presidential candidates again and the last between the two pairs.
The debates will be broadcast live nationwide alternately by several national television stations, he said.
The debate on Monday evening is scheduled to be broadcast live by SCTV, Indosiar and Berita Satu TV stations.
In the upcoming election, the Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa pair will compete against Joko Widodo (Jokowi) with Jusuf Kalla as his running mate.
